Repeat : Return : Reprise – Game-a-week #3

Out with an old friend, you take the subway to a party you’ll never get to – instead taking a detour to terror, regret, time loops, and ultimately the acceptance that sometimes good enough is good enough.

Repeat : Return : Reprise is a text adventure game written in Ink with a godot wrapper providing layout and structure.

Play it here [CONTENT WARNING: GRAPHIC VIOLENCE]

You can either play the bare-bones version in the browser, or download the Godot version for windows – unfortunately Godot 4 Mono does not yet allow an export to HTML.

Further Development

Given more time, I would add:

  • More story
  • Proofreading
  • Save/Load functionality in the godot version
  • Art
  • Music

Takeaways:

It’s unfortunate that Godot 4 Mono cannot export to HTML; this limits its utility for these smaller games as many would benefit from browser play. A lot of itch.io visitors won’t download a game, but would try one out in the browser window.

Given this it makes as much sense to release text-based games in Twine (or Ren’Py if a suitable artist is willing to partner up) – but my focus here was getting Ink to work in Godot 4.
